It had been a while since Linda and I had been able to escape. So we did it in style - a relaxing seven day/seven night cruise from New Orleans down to the western Caribbean. It was like checking into an ocean-going resort and not having to pack and unpack every day. At night, as we slept, our luxury hotel cut through the water as though we were on a magic carpet ride and took us to wherever so we woke up at an all-new destination every morning. Fun! You should do it, too.

It ain't over till it's over. Smitten with cruising, Linda and I have decided to take a few more. We have a few in mind. One originates in Buenos Aires and follows the coast of South America south (via the Falkland Islands) to the Straight of Magellan, then on up the west coast of South America to the Panama Canal for a daylight crossing, and on to Miami. Another is a slow circle around the Mediteranean from Barcelona to Barcelona via Rome, Athens, Istanbul, Egypt, Malta, Casablanca; we'll return to the States from Paris. Finally, a Rhine River cruise from Amsterdam, ultimately to the Danube and Budapest via the heart of Europe. Yet another is something in China on the Yangtze, where, after a side trip to Bejing, we'll see the Great Wall. If nothing else, it's fun to dream about.
Never drive at night in third world countries. Other vehicles might not have lights. You will learn of your fellow motorist's existence only after the collision - which could be deliberate. After you get out to check damage, the other party pulls a gun and robs you. Or, because you are an ugly American, something worse.
