In one of my prior lives, I was a member of the National Association of Television Programming Executives. As such, it was my solemn duty to attend annual trade shows in Las Vegas and New Orleans to hawk a syndicated show (about bass fishing, of all things) to networks and such. All kinds of other programs did it, too, and seemingly all the stars of the silver screen showed to help their collective causes. When I had time at the trade shows, I, too, provided the wait wasn't too long, would stand in line to have my picture made with some of them. But there were just so many of those Hollywood-type freaks that I just didn't give a rip about. Jerry Springer comes to mind. NATPE aside, there were scads of other celebrity-type people met along the way. Two of them were genuine personality-poor billionaires. Then there were folks in Washington, D.C., where, working with numerous others, I helped inform representatives, senators, members of the Executive Branch and other high ranking ne'er-do-wells about issues related to fish and wildlife conservation. Alas, no pictures. Doesn't matter. In the grand scheme of life, they were mostly "smarter than you and me," morally defunct no-counts. Bill Clinton comes to mind; you never know where his hands have been.
